NICHOLSON
Ingeborg Schulz Nicholson, 91, of Cary, died peacefully on September 24, 2011, at Woodland Terrace Assisted Living Center. She was born in New York City on February 13, 1920, to German immigrants, Carolina and Hugo Schulz.
Ingeborg met her husband John Henry Nicholson while both were attending Sunday School at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Manhattan. They were married 61 years before his death on February 13, 2005. She graduated from Julia Richman High School in Manhattan in 1936. She then attended Hunter College in New York City where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology. She was a homemaker and mother of five children and was active in Lutheran Churches and in hospital volunteering and fundraising as they made their home in Groton, CT; Roslyn Harbor, NY; and Southport, NC, where they retired in 1986. They moved to Cary, NC in 1998.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her oldest son, Roger Alan Nicholson; her sister Virginia Schulz Johnson; her first grandchild, Joshua Adam Hewett; and her oldest daughter Karen Nicholson Paine.
She is survived by her children and their families, daughter, Denise Schlesinger and husband Peter of Roseville, MN, son, Paul Nicholson and wife Laurel Solomon of Durham, NC, son, Bruce Nicholson and wife Rebecca, of Cary, NC; grandchildren, Amanda Schlesinger, of Minneapolis, MN, Douglas and Kyle Nicholson, of Cary, NC, and Ariana and Meridy Nicholson, of Durham, NC.
The family would especially like to thank the caring staff of Woodland Terrace in Cary, where she had lived since 2003. They also greatly appreciate the excellent and compassionate medical care provided by Doctors Making Housecalls, Cary Cardiology, Raleigh Neurology, and the care and support services of Hospice of Wake County and its many volunteers.
The family will hold a memorial service at a later date after which her ashes will join those of her husband. In lieu of flowers the family requests remembering Ingeborg with donations to Hospice of Wake County or to the charity of the donor's choice.
