JOHN ALAN JOYNER John Alan Joyner, 62, of Wilmington, died Friday, April 4, 2014, at his residence. John graduated from Hoggard High School and earned his Associate's degree in Marine Technology from Cape Fear Community College. He loved his family, pets and the river and was loved by all who knew him and well respected by his co-workers. John spent most of his working life on or near the Cape Fear River where he once worked as a tug boat captain and ran a line boat. For the last 32 years, he worked for Apex Oil Terminal, where he was manager. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Amon Joyner and Ollie Owens Joyner and his very special fur babies, J.D. "Just Dog" and Binky. Survivors include his wife and love of his life, Kay Carmichael Joyner; sister, Lou G. Miller; paternal aunt, Lucille Bryant (J.O.); maternal aunt, Shirley Owens; sister-in-law, Linda Carmichael; brother-in-law, Bobby Carmichael; nieces, Cori and Jessica Carmichael; great-nephew, Leighton; great-niece; Julia; many cousins; special friend, Donna Wilson (Johnny) and their children, Shannon and Bryan and life-long friends, Charlie and Mitchell. A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Sunday, April 13, 2014, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. The family will receive visitors immediately following the service at the home of Donna and Johnny Wilson, 730 Wilderness Rd., Wilmington, NC 28412. Catering will be provided by Apex Oil Company.
