JOHN C BOWMAN John C. Bowman (Jack) age 94 died of natural causes June 4, 2018 at New Hanover Hospital in Wilmington, NC. Jack was born August 2, 1923 in Tarentum, PA son of George Bowman and Olive Foxton. Jack was a graduate of Lakewood High School, The U.S. Naval Academy where he received a Bachelor's in Marine Engineering, and Case Institute of Technology where he received a Master's degree in Nuclear Physics. He served his country with the U.S. Navy deploying both to Europe and the South Pacific aboard the USS Anthony and USS Earl V. Johnson, during which time he rose to the rank of Lt. Commander. Jack spent the remainder of his career working at Union Carbide in collaboration with the Department of Defense. He enjoyed spending spare time with family, was an avid reader and ardently volunteered much of his time for 50 years as a mentor to individuals struggling with addiction. Many of his favorite memories were with loved ones at the lake. Jack was preceded in death by his mother, father, sister, Mary Sullivan, and stepdaughter, Cindy. Jack leaves behind wife Joyce Bowman, son John Bowman, daughters Rebecca McFarland, Barbara Bowman, and Lisa Page (Mark Page) and granddaughters Caroline Cikra (Chris Cikra), Meredith Bronson (Todd Bronson), Jessica Edmonds (James Edmonds), Brooke Mattingly and Mia Mattingly. Jack will be buried at sea with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to www.woundedwarriorproject.org to support all their great work or www.fallenpatriots.org to provide college scholarships for children of the fallen. "If they are remembered, they are not gone truly, they simply change duty assignments and are amongst our best."
