JOHN ROBERT BOYD John Robert Boyd, 82, of Wilmington, passed away Monday, October 21, 2013, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter. John was born June 16, 1931, in Whitefish, Montana, to the late James Boyd and Ruth Sullivan Boyd. His brother, James S. Boyd, Jr., preceded him in death. Surviving is his loving wife of 59 years, Jeanne Snell Boyd; son, Randall A. Boyd (Robin) of Raleigh, NC; daughter, Sandra Boyd Masaitis of Culpeper, VA; grandchildren, Sarah Boyd and James Boyd of Raleigh, and Cole Masaitis and Olivia Masaitis of Culpeper, VA; sister, Donna Boyd Hess and nephew, Craig Hess (Debbie), both of Glastonbury, CT; niece, Kathleen Stadler (Bob) of Sacramento, CA; and sister-in-law, Marion Brittain of Leavenworth, WA. John was retired from the Defense Logistics Agency, Dept. of Defense, where he was a procurement chief. He was a veteran of the Korean War, during which he served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He graduated from Bremerton (Wash.) High School in 1950, and after his military service attended the University of Washington for two years before moving to California. He graduated from San Jose State University with a B.S. in Business and Marketing in 1959. After several years in private industry, the rest of his working career was with the federal government, from which he retired in 1991 in northern Virginia. John and Jeanne moved to Wilmington where they enjoyed retirement. In his younger years, especially in the Pacific Northwest, John enjoyed deer hunting and salmon fishing. In retirement, he enjoyed golfing with his neighborhood buddies. Our family would like to thank all of the wonderful doctors and nurses involved with John's hospitalization at NHRMC and also Dr. Ellis Tinsley and his staff, as well as Dr. Robert Cortina and his staff. We also greatly appreciate the kindness and care experienced with all the staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice. At John's request, he will be cremated, and there will be no funeral or memorial service. Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401. Condolences to the family at Andrews Market Street Chapel
