JOSEPH BERGIN DAVIES
Joseph B Davies was born in Paterson, New Jersey, on November 16, 1914, and died at his home at Plantation Village on September 15, 2011. He was predeceased by his parents David and Elaine Moltane Davies, his brothers David and Stanley, and his sisters Mildred Davies and Thelma D. Constantineau.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of nearly 57 years, Elsa Flower Davies. He met Elsa at Totowa Wayne Airport in New Jersey on May 25, 1954 and they were married on November 12, 1954. They shared a love of flying. Joe learned to fly in the Navy. After returning home from service, Joe bought a plane and kept flying. Elsa belonged to the Women Flyers of America. Joe and Elsa flew to and spent at least one night in all 50 states. Their aviation experiences together included three flights to Alaska, trips to Cuba, the Bahama Islands, and a flight inside the entire length of the Grand Canyon.
Mr Davies served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and received the Philippine Liberation medal. He was a member of the Elks- Wilmington Lodge #532 and the American Legion. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and Sudan Shriner.
Joseph worked for fifty years in the newspaper industry, starting as an office clerk and working his way up to Advertising Manager. The Davies moved to Figure Eight Island in 1980, where they were active in the community. They moved to Plantation Village in 2005.
Mr and Mrs Davies were major benefactors of The Davis Community in Porters Neck, where the Joseph B. and Elsa Flower Davies Wellness Center is named in their honor.
They supported many other charities, including the Shriners Hospital for Children in Florida, the American Red Cross, The Open Gate, and Honor Flight.

Visitation will be Sunday, from 5 to 6pm at Andrews Market Street Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, September 19, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel with Rev. Bob Haywood officiating.
