CLAYTON -- Josh Proutey, age 19, died unexpectedly in Wilmington, NC on Thursday, December 13, 2012.

A celebration service of Josh's life will be held 3:00 PM Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at C3 (Cleveland Community Church), 8246 Cleveland Road, Clayton, NC. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 3:00 PM at the church prior to the service.

Josh was a kind, loving, compassionate and gentle soul, who loved playing jokes as proven by his selection as "Most Likely to Play a School Prank" of his West Johnston High School Class of 2011. Josh enjoyed playing his guitar, surfing, fishing, motocross, cooking, gardening and spending time with his many friends. Fun followed Josh everywhere he went and he never knew a stranger. He was currently a student at Cape Fear Community College and employed as the night manager of the Wilmington Performing Arts Center. As a demonstration of his patriotism, Josh was in the process of enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. Throughout his life, Josh had a passion for Guatemala and traveled there numerous times on short term mission trips.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Eric James Proutey.

He is survived by his dad and mom, Don and Patty Proutey; sister, Julie Rogers and husband Tim; brothers, Jason Proutey and wife Shelly, Ben Proutey and wife Garrietta, Joe Gabello and Carlos Proutey; nieces and nephews, Emily Proutey, Jack Proutey, Megan Proutey and Timmy Rogers; maternal grandfather, Harry Erway; second family, Maryanne and Andy Johnson and their children Sean and Paul; and his "cool cat", Kitty Snoop-Lion.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, December 22, 2012 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge, NY.

Memorial contributions may be made to: Power Alley Ministries, 2853A Jones Franklin Road, Raleigh, NC 27606, ATTN: Josh Proutey Memorials. Memorial contributions will benefit Guatemalan missions.
