LEWIS "DOC" HEBER RACKLEY Lewis "Doc" Heber Rackley, 88, of Watha passed peacefully from his earthly life on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center. He was born May 10, 1925 in Wilmington, the son of the late Lewis Thomas and Norma Costin Rackley. Doc was predeceased by his wife, Jo Ann Gainey Rackley and brothers, Carroll Rackley and Bernard Rackley. Doc is survived by his children, Judy Mae Ayers, Carl Rackley (Agnes), Marilyn Rackley and Monty Rackley (Marilyn); step-children, Billy Benton (Teresa) and Teresa Orr; 15 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Rackley (Madeline); sister-in-law, Lila Rackley; and several nieces and nephews. Lewis served his country honorably in the US Navy during WW II. After working 30 years, Lewis retired from Federal Paper Board (now International Paper Company). He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. Doc was a proficient wood carver and made many beautiful ducks, swans and other wood carved items. As long as his health permitted he enjoyed being outdoors in God's beautiful world fishing and camping at the beach with his wife, Jo Ann. Doc loved his family and had a quiet personal faith in the Lord. Cherished memories of Doc will always remain in our hearts. Graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Riverview Memorial Park with The Rev. Philip Eakins officiating. The family will receive friends at Doc's residence.
