LORETTA GERENSER LEWIS Loretta Gerenser Lewis, 78, of Wilmington, passed away on Saturday, August 4, after a brief illness. She was born on May 10, 1940, in the Bronx, NY, daughter of the late Hilda Maerz Gerenser and Frank Gerenser. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Lynn Lewis and her brothers Frank Gerenser and Fred Gerenser. She is survived by her children John, Frank (daughter-in-law Steph), and Christine (son-in-law Philip); grandchildren Oliver, Jack, Matthew, Cam, Kyra, Harris and Katie; nieces Joanne and Courtenay, and nephew Frank. Loretta moved to Wilmington in 1995 and loved her Eastwood Village community with many close friends. She was a strong, tough, German spitfire, with a sarcastic wit, who always told it like it was but could also be kind, caring and generous. She was the last of the "Great Gerensers." Loretta spent most of her years in Wilmington working at Apple Annie's, and when out in public would frequently get asked if she was "Apple Annie" because of the resemblance. The family thanks her wonderful friends who were like family and always there for her especially Suzi, Richard (and children), Owen, Butch, Pat, Melin, Jean, Jill, Rose, Helen and Carol. A service will be held at a later date.
