Lydia Fleakwood Cannon, 88, was born on November 20, 1924 in Timmonsville, South Carolina and took her last peaceful breath on February 25, 2013 in Wilmington, North Carolina where she spent most of her life. She is predeceased by her husband Richard (Dick) William Cannon, parents Romaine Bell and Bessie Mae Bell, brother Bill Bell from Virginia, sisters Frankie Bell Shinn of Kannapolis, North Carolina, Sylvia Bell Kishel from Minnesota, Carol Bell Walters of Virginia, and Dolores Bell Graver of Delaware. She is survived by a sister Elizabeth Bell Tedder of Timmonsville, South Carolina, brother Jerry Bell and wife Debbie of Raleigh, North Carolina, daughter Dawn Cannon Britt and husband Ennis Britt of Wilmington, North Carolina, granddaughters Angela Dawn Batts of Charlotte, Kristin Cannon Britt Pflughoeft and husband David Robert Pflughoeft, and great grandson Logan Pflughoeft, all of Charlotte. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Wayne Anderson of New Bern, North Carolina, Charles Cannon and wife Jackie of Dunwoody Georgia, along with many loving nieces and nephews.

Lydia met the love of her life, Richard William Cannon, and were married on May 25, 1942 and later made their home together in North Carolina. They began their business, Cannon Heating and Air Conditioning, Incorporated in 1949, which is still in existence where Lydia served for many years as vice president. Lydia was an active member in numerous churches in the area throughout the years including Winter Park Baptist where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Baptist Training Union Leader and a member of WMU. She later joined Pine Valley Baptist Church where she served in Children's Bible School. She was also a member at Heritage Baptist Church and preceding her death she was a long-term member of The Rock Church. She enjoyed her retirement years living at The Kempton and The Commons at Brightmore where she was affectionately know as "Hollywood". She enjoyed singing, meditating aloud on Scripture, and sitting on the front porch in a rocking chair. She was always filled with joy and laughter and blessed those who were fortunate enough to know her.

The funeral will be held at Andrews Mortuary located at 1617 Market Street, Wilmington, North Carolina on Saturday, March 2, 2013. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm followed by the funeral service at 2:00. Entombment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery. Reverend Ron McGee, Founding Pastor of The Rock Church, will conduct funeral Services.

Pallbearers are David Pflughoeft, Spike Gray, David James, Ron Phelps, Glenn Britt, Jake Willetts, III. Honorary pallbearer is Master Logan Pflughoeft.
