Margaret Porter Sandlin, 87, died peacefully on November 30, 2012 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. She was born on June 12, 1925 in Wilmington, North Carolina. She was the daughter of the late George Silas and Annie Belle Sandlin. She was predeceased by her brothers, George, Gene, and sister Annell. She was also predeceased by her husband Ralph Douglas, Sr. in 2008, and son Stephen Elliott in 1973. She is survived by her daughter, Ann W. Passavanti (Donald); son, Ralph Douglas Jr. (Linda); grandchildren, Philip J. Rosenberger III (Uta) of Sydney, Australia; Margaret L. Norcott (Guy) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; great-grandchildren, Amelia and Noella Norcott; Lina Margaret Rosenberger; and niece and nephews. She grew up in Wilmington where she graduated from New Hanover High school. She and her husband were charter members of Devon Park Methodist Church in Wilmington N.C. She moved with her family to Jacksonville in 1960 when the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad (now CSX) relocated. She and her husband enjoyed many wonderful summers at their vacation home in the western North Carolina mountains. As a devoted member of the Arlington United Methodist Church since 1960, she greatly enjoyed church activities and being in the Super Seniors and the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Southside Women's Club. She will always be remembered for her sweet spirit and determination to make the best of any situation that came her way. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Margaret retained her dignity and loving spirit throughout her battle with Alzheimer's disease. The family wishes to thank her church family, Wyndham Lakes Memory care Memorial Hospital and Sunbeam Road Community Hospice staff for their care. Arrangements are being handled by Arlington Park Funeral Home, 6920 Lone Star Rd., Jacksonville, FL. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service in the chapel from 10:30am to 11:30am and the funeral service to follow at 11:30am in the Chapel at Arlington United Methodist Church, 1400 University Blvd. N., Jacksonville, FL, on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. Burial will be at Arlington Park Cemetery, 6920 Lone Star Rd., Jacksonville, FL. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Florida United Methodist Children's Home at 51 Main Street, Enterprise, FL 32725.
