MARTHA LENORA JENKINS CLAYTON
Martha Lenora Jenkins Clayton, 89, of Wilmington, NC, died Thursday, February 16, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
She was born on October 30, 1922, the daughter of the late John Henry Jenkins and Eunice May Neill Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, John E. Clayton in 2000, as well as two brothers, John H. Jenkins and Marvin H. Jenkins.
Mrs. Clayton was a member of St. Andrew's On-the-Sound Episcopal Church. She was a veteran of the US Navy having served during WWII. She was a volunteer at the UNCW library and a 1995 graduate of UNCW with a degree in History. Mrs. Clayton was a member of Phi Alpha Theta.
Surviving are two children, Martha Jane Clayton, MD of Metaire, LA, and John Matthew Clayton and wife Karen R. Cottrell of Williamsburg, VA; two grandchildren, Zane Clayton Shannon and Casey Neill Shannon.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at St. Andrew's On-the-Sound Episcopal Church with The Rev. Richard G. Elliott officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date in Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church Parish Hall.
