PLEASANT LUTHER BROWN, JR. Pleasant Luther Brown Jr. was given eternal life on Thursday morning, July 4, 2013 after a miraculous and brave battle with cancer. He was a man of deep faith who loved God and family above all. He lived his life as a peaceful and positive man who gained the admiration of many who knew him. Luther was born in Wilmington, NC in 1938. He lived in Ivanhoe, NC and was educated at Oak Ridge Military Academy until 1956. He graduated from Davidson College in 1960. A long time resident of Wilmington, NC, Luther established Brown Oil Company in his early career. Later he sold his business to Springer Eubank Oil Company, Inc. where he was General Manager until retiring in 2004. He had been an active member of St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church since 1966. Luther served as a Deacon and Elder and also was on numerous church committees over the years. Luther's participation in community service included board membership on the New Hanover Regional Medical Center, at one time serving as the chairman. He was also a member of St. Johns Lodge #1, the Scottish Rite and a was a 32nd degree Mason. Luther served on several other boards including the Child Development Center and the Cape Fear Museum. He chaired the National Distributors Council for Exxon Company USA and was a member of the NC Oil Jobbers Association Board. He enjoyed his membership of both the Cape Fear Country Club and the Carolina Yacht Club. He loved sailing, snow skiing, biking, hiking, jogging and was known as the "early bird" at his club fitness center. One of his greatest passions was spending time in the NC mountains with his family. Luther was a licensed Ham Radio Operator, KG4GOY, with an Extra Class license. Luther is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy, daughter Kathryn Ciarrocca, her husband Mark and their two children Johnathan and Lila, his daughter Robin Boswell and her husband Brian. He is also survived by his three adoring sisters, Priscilla Willard, Betty Hardee, Toppy Sayre and their husbands and families. A visitation will be held on Sunday July 7, 2013 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at Andrews Mortuary and a celebration of his life will be held on Monday, July 8, 2013 at 1:00 PM at St. Andrews-Covenant Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, NC.
