He was a 1952 graduate of Long Branch High School and a 1954 graduate of Monmouth Junior College with an AA Degree in Business Administration.

Using his carpentry skills, Ray built their new home in Olde Point in Hampstead. He later used these same talents to establish his carpentry business doing small renovations and fine carpentry for numerous contractors and home owners. For the last five years, he worked for the Lowe's Home Improvement Store in Surf City, NC.
