Raymond Lewis Bacon, 78, of Wilmington passed away surrounded by family and friends Wednesday, November 6, 2012 at the Lowe Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Cener. Born in Long Branch, NJ on May 11, 1934 he was the son of the late G. Raymond and Constance Lewis Bacon. He was a 1952 graduate of Long Branch High School and a 1954 graduate of Monmouth Junior College with an AA Degree in Business Administration.
After a brief career in the family printing business, Ray took a different direction into outside sales. He retired after 20 years with Heidelberg Eastern, Inc. during which time he earned numerous awards for superior sales. He then moved his family to Hampstead, NC. Using his carpentry skills, Ray built their new home in Olde Point in Hampstead. He later used these same talents to establish his carpentry business doing small renovations and fine carpentry for numerous contractors and home owners. For the last five years, he worked for the Lowe's Home Improvement Store in Surf City, NC.
Ray served in several capacities with Olde Point Property Owners Associations. Ray was an active member of Hampstead United Methodist Church. He was known by his best friends as "Mr. Fixit." In the early years of Ray and Lynne's marriage, they volunteered as crisis hotline intervention workers.
Ray is survived by his wonderful wife, Lynne, of 39 years. During that period they enjoyed traveling, boating, golfing and the beach. There was nothing more important than raising a blended family of seven children; namely, Lawrence Bacon (Julie) of Lafayette, CO, Melissa Brann (Doug) of Naples, FL, Melinda Bacon of McKinleyville, CA, Randolph Bacon (Kelly) of Alpharetta, GA, Timothy O'Brien of Miami Beach, FL, Shannon O'Brien Hawke (David) of Lake Worth, FL and Danielle King of Manasquan, NJ including fourteen grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Jean Hubbard (Frank) of Moscow, PA , Susan Spencer (John) of Severn, MD and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Celebration will be held 11 am Saturday, November 10, 2012, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel officiated by Pastor Randy Maynard of Hampstead United Methodist Church. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service.
A special note of thanks is extended to the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice and to his special neice, Lorri Couvillion.
