Dear family of Speedy,
My husband and I spent two years building a home in Wilmington, moving in on April 1, 2010. Speedy and Bubba did all the electrical work. I always enjoyed coming to the construction site when I knew they would be there. It is hard for me to just say "Speedy", since they were always know as "Speedy and Bubba". I have the very fondest of memories with his sweet bantering. We had a magnolia tree on the construction site and we were always trying to protect that tree. I remember his telling me that if he had that darn magnolia tree, he would cut it down because they were so messy. As I clean up those daily droppings, I will always remember him.
My thought are with the entire family. I know you will miss him, but just know that there were many others whose day was made brighter just by his being there.

Peace,

I have procrastinated in writing my entry, as I have been deeply saddened with Uncle Hugh's passing. Uncle Hugh was extremely special to me, for I spent several weeks out of the summer with him when I was a little girl. Additionally, we shared the same birthday, and for the past 25 years we never forgot to celebrate it with each other. The only consolation I have right now is that he is with my sweet, vivacious Aunt Betsy in Heaven. I will forever remember the times we spent together, from the many tickles, hugs, kisses, and beard pulling, to the last time I saw him in the maternity ward after I gave birth to his great-great nephew. Hughie, you will always be loved, remembered, and cherished for as long as I live. It's hard to believe I won't be able to tug on your beard again, but I will see you again someday. I will forevermore love you!

We will miss Uncle Hugh more than I could ever express into words. We all loved him and now cherish the time we had with him. The first thing Toni said when we heard was, "I won't get another kiss from Uncle Hugh?" We were all shocked and saddened by the news. Maybe now he can be with Aunt Betsy and Kim again in Our Father's heavenly home.

Speedy you don't know how many times I haved flipped a light switch since tuesday and thought..... how you put the power or light in a room. Your wit and laughter filled the room so, that I don't know which made the room brighter, YOU or your work! Like Chaney said "they'll be things that reminds us of you everyday". Every patch in the drywall, will remind me of how you stopped by the resturant and helped me that afternoon, and I forgot to tell Bubba who my helper was that day....you were soo proud, just as proud as I am to call you one of my true friends, gonna miss you Speed Boat!!! mud

My brother, Patrick Roethlinger (who works at Longley Supply) and I, were just talking about what a great guy Speedy was, so funny and such a nice guy! We became friends with Speedy and Bubba in the 1980's thru Deryl Smith Realty and Construction, where they did all of our electrical work. I always looked forward to seeing them. Always making you laugh! He will be greatly missed! My love and prayers go out to his family, friends and other loved ones. May God bless each of you and comfort you.

Uncle Hugh, what will we do without you, without those wonderful elaborate “kisses” and hugs? I can not express how much your laughter, your quips and your presence will be missed, however I can only imagine how greatly all of those same things and more will be welcomed by Aunt Betsy, Kim, Mama and everyone else waiting for you at home. I love you as we all do! Chris, Toni, Tara, Tyler King, Jesse & Will Wrenn

Speedy will be missed. What a nice guy he was. My 3 yr old daughter, Carissa, used to run outside after church, to my dad and jump in his arms. speedy was normally standing there and held his arms out as well and of course she looked at him with that shy 3yr old face and would not talk to him. All of a sudden one day, she ran to him and let him pick her up and gave him a big hug. I think they were friends ever since. He helped my son Caleb with his senior project. Just an all around nice and funny guy!

It is said a person is considered exceptionally lucky if the fingers of one hand represents his TRUE FRIENDS. Speedy's true friendship required TWO FINGERS. There is no way my wife and I could repay the inspiration and contributions that he made on our family. All of the guys associated with his racing ventures were, and still are, like brothers. There is no way the void of his absence will ever be filled. Speedy, we all loved you and will forever miss and remember you.
GOD BLESS YOUR FAMILY
