SYLVIA EDENS CAPPS
Sylvia Edens Capps, 74, of Hampstead, NC, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington, NC.
She was born in Hampstead, NC, on February 15, 1938, daughter of the late Alva Fletcher Edens and Maude Tallman Edens.
Mrs. Capps taught in public schools in Rocky Mount and Hampstead, retiring with over thirty years of service. She was a life-long and very active member of Barlow-Vista Baptist Church, Hampstead. Mrs. Capps was an avid reader and enjoyed inspirational books and Christian music. In her spare time she painted with watercolors, attended yard sales, went to the beach and always enjoyed participating in card games, especially rummy. Mrs. Capps is remembered as one who always had a smile on her face and never met a stranger. She was a generous and giving person and will be missed by her family and the many friends whose lives she touched along her way.
Surviving are her daughter, Victoria Sealy and husband Jeff of Hampstead; two grandchildren, Ashley Sealy and Daniel Sealy; her niece, Neva Bartholomew of Chapel Hill, NC; her nephew, Fletcher Edens of Hickory, NC; and a sister-in-law, Rachel Edens of Ocean Isle Beach. A son, Ron Capps and a brother, Alva Marvin Edens (husband of Rachel), preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel, 17730, US Highway 17 North, Hampstead, NC, (910-270-3401).
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2012, at Barlow-Vista Baptist Church, 22340 US Highway 17 North, Hampstead, NC, with Pastor Robert McGraw officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to Barlow-Vista Baptist Church in memory of Mrs. Capps.
