Richard Ralph Sobota was born October 30, 1941 in Cleveland, Ohio and passed away on December 31, 2012 at the age of 71.

Dick, an Air-Force Veteran, married his wife Judy in 1966 in Ohio, but they , settled and raised their family in Kernersville, NC. Dick was a talented mechanical engineer, held many patents and was awarded product of the year honors for his concept and design of vapor-vac technology integrated in the design of gas-pump manufacturing. Dick retired in 2001 and he and Judy moved to Ocean Isle Beach, where they always greeted a constant flow of visitors with open arms.

Dick was a thoughtful, loving husband to Judy for 47 years and together they raised three children, Matt, Jill and Robb. Dick was constantly surrounded by his family and friends, including his five grandchildren, Mackenzie, Savannah, Tatum, Maddie and Parker, who called him "Pa". When he wasn't keeping himself busy at home, you could find Dick on a local golf course, at the VFW or at the hardware store.

Dick is survived by his wife, Judy, his children, Matt (Kelli) Sobota, Jill (Tim) Anderson, Robb (Babs)Sobota, his grandchildren, Tatum and Parker Sobota, Mackenzie and Maddie Anderson, Savannah Maynor and his brother, Robert Sobota. Dick was preceeded in death by his mother, Delores Bitt and father, Clarence Sobota.

A memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ocean Isle Beach on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Museum of Coastal Carolina 21 East Second Street, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28469.
