Samuel "Sammy" Harlee Potter, Jr., 68, of Kelly passed from his earthly life to his heavenly home on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at his home.

He was born March 15, 1944 in Wilmington, the son of the late Samuel "Sam" Harlee Potter, Sr. and Juanita Squires Potter.

Sammy is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Elaine Hardison Potter; son, Kendale Potter (Rebecca) of Kelly; daughter, Stephanie Ensminger (Jerry) of White Lake; grandchildren, Justin Garner (Juli), Jessica Garner, Beth Potter and Zach Potter; great grandson, Greyson Scott; sisters, Patricia Lewis (John) of Little River, SC, Joyce Burney (Earl) of Kelly, and Deanna Tatum (Chris) of Elizabethtown; and several nieces and nephews.

Sammy was a faithful member of Centerville Baptist Church. He retired from General Electric Company, Nuclear Fuel Division in Castle Hayne.

Sammy loved his family and was the BEST husband, daddy, granddaddy, brother and friend anyone could ask for. Disking his garden and working outdoors were favorite pastimes that Sammy enjoyed. Sammy's quiet faith and thankfulness for his many blessings spoke clearly to his family and friends. He will be remembered as a gentle, kind, honorable man who loved God, family and friends. Amongst the legacies Sammy will leave are the importance of God, family and our country.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Centerville Baptist Church with the Rev. Ryan Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Casketbearers will be Bennie Scott, Justin Garner, Dean Lewis, Dave Burney, Keith Baltezegar and Chris Tatum. Honorary bearers will be the Men's Sunday School Class of Centerville Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the church until hour of the service.
