Robert Edward Cassatt of Hampstead, NC died February 3, 2013. Son of Jay David and Marie Cassatt, he was born June 11, 1922, in Philadelphia, PA.
He is survived by his beloved wife Marjorie Spencer Cassatt - married 70 years; Son Robert Cassatt, Jr of Hampstead, NC; and two grandchildren, Alex Cassatt of Seattle, WA, and Hayley Cassatt of Portland, OR. He was preceded in death on Jan 16 by his older son, Christopher Cassatt of Basalt, CO.
An Alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania and Syracuse University, he earned the nickname 'Biz' for his business dedication and gained a reputation as a corporate turnaround professional. He served as Marketing Manager of the Fedders Corporation, Vice President of Marketing of the York Corporation, President of the Regina Corporation, President of Westinghouse Television, Executive Vice President of the Sunbeam Corporation and Vice President, Marketing, International Group, for the Singer Corporation. He started his career with General Electric - where he was the the youngest Division Manager of Advertising in the company's history. During his tenure there, he was a producer/budgeting director on the Fred Waring television show. He retired as Senior Partner of the Strategic Business Planning Group, Wilton, Conn.
He was a member of the American Management Association, The National Advertisers Review Board, the Young Presidents Association and served as Chairman of the Room Air Conditioner Section of the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute.
As an ardent environmentalist, he was one of the founding members of Pender Watch and Conservancy in Hampstead, NC.
And when he wasn't doing all this, he was a great provider for his family, a loving father, a gourmet cook and an artist in his own right as a descendent of Mary Cassatt. His sons followed in his artistic lineage with son Rob writing and producing plays and son Chris becoming the well-known syndicated cartoonist for 'Shoe' & 'Sal A Mander'. His dog, Frazier, misses him.
His remains have been donated to the East Carolina University School of Medicine.
His ashes will be distributed around the Hampstead Waterways he loved so much.
