DEL DUNNING

Del Dunning of Hampstead, NC died February 7, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, NC at the age of 85.

Robson Delbert Dunning, Jr (Del) was born in Bridgeport, CT on November 11, 1927, the son of Robson Delbert Dunning, Sr and Mabel Hahn. He served in the United States Coast Guard in 1944-1945. He later attended St.Lawrence University on the GI Bill and graduated in 1951. In 1952, he married Doris June Steenson and had 3 children. Over the years, he worked in marketing & advertising for a number of companies, including Stillman Food Distributors (Utica, NY), Burguin's Grocery (Cincinatti, OH), Standard Brands (NYC), Canahay & Lion (NYC) and Corn Products (NYC). Later, he worked for the US Postal Service for 10 years in Thornwood, NY. In 1990, he retired to Hampstead, NC where he enjoyed golfing, boating, hunting & fishing and gardening. He is predeceased by his wife, Doris June Dunning (June) in 2004 and by his son, Robson Delbert Dunning, III (Rob) in 2012. He is survived by his son, Glenn Frederick Dunning and by his daughter-in-law, Natalie Dunning who reside in Edgewater, Florida. He is also survived by his daughter, Susan Patricia Dunning, his son-in-law, Georg Steinthorsson and his three grandchildren, Anna Georgsdottir, Tomas Georgsson and Loa Georgsdottir who reside in Shelburne, Vermont. A memorial service will be held at Topsail Presbyterian Church in Hampstead, NC on Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 1pm with a small reception afterwards. In memory of Del, flowers can be sent to Topsail Presbyterian Church in Hampstead, NC and donations can be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice in Wilmington, NC. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Ed and Rite Hill and their family for their friendship and assistance over many years.
