Mary (Mitzi) lost her mother soon after birth and grew up in Georgia and Michigan overcoming childhood polio. She worked her way through college during the Great Depression and World War II, and then worked as a researcher at the Federal Reserve Bank in Saint Louis. After the war, she married George D. Durbrow in Atlanta, Georgia. They were married for 44 years. They moved to Virginia then Florida and later New City, New York. In New City she worked as legal secretary. She later moved to Paris, France and volunteered as a librarian. Returning to the US, she volunteered as a historical librarian in New Canaan, CT. She was a dedicated member of the League of Women Voters for many years and in reading and study groups in New York and Wilmington, North Carolina. She and her husband retired to Wilmington and, after his death, she moved to Sacramento, California, to be near family. She had 4 children and lost one child, Peter, to cancer. She is survived by three of her children (Anne, Michael, and Eric) and two grandchildren (Alexandra and Ava). She will be greatly missed.
