Amelia Sanders Sidbury died on Monday, February 18, 2013, thus ending a decades-long struggle with a number of illnesses which she fought with an indomitable will.
She was born in Hampstead, NC, on March 30, 1934, to Robert James and Della Jones Sanders. Amelia attended Topsail High School, graduating in 1952. She then moved to Wilmington, NC and began working at the Bailey Theater. In 1955, she began a career with the Wilmington Public Library which would span five decades and result in innumerable enduring friendships. Amelia married Empie Norman Sidbury, Jr. in 1961, and their union produced a son, Empie Norman Sidbury III.
Amelia was known for her generosity, her love of cats, and her tremendous culinary talent. Her gourmet macaroni and cheese was a perennial favorite which graced every holiday celebration.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and four siblings; Robert Edwin Sanders, Myrtle Lorraine Sanders, John Alfred Sanders, and Norman James Sanders. She is survived by her son Empie Norman Sidbury III, her sister, Juanita Bryant (Ernest) and numerous nephews and nieces who will miss her greatly.
A memorial service will be held at 1pm, Thursday, February 21, 2013, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hampstead. Interment will follow at the Latter Day Saints Cemetery.
The family will receive visitors from 7-9pm, Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel.
