STEDMAN ENGLISH GAGE

Stedman English Gage, 22, of Wilmington, died Friday in Chapel Hill. He is survived by his parents, Hannah Dawson Gage and William Frank Gage of Wilmington and his brother, William Dawson Gage of San Francisco, and his grandmother, Mrs. Victor Weyher Dawson of Fayetteville.

Stedman was a young man of keen intellect, a good and bold heart, charming wit, and a smile that could warm the world. He loved to read books. He loved the outdoors, tennis, Carolina basketball, the North Carolina coast, and his family. Stedman was blessed with an adoring and large family but his love for his brother Dawson was his touchstone.

He was a graduate of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Virginia and was a student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is mourned by scores of friends from both institutions.

Stedman also leaves behind one aunt and four uncles, Victor Weyher Dawson, Jr. of Fayetteville, John Gilmer Dawson III of Fayetteville, Terry Lyon Dawson of Fayetteville, Robert Headley Gage of Morganton, and Dr. Lawrence English Gage of Pittsford, New York and many cousins who loved him dearly and who treasure his memory.

A memorial service for Stedman will be held at St. James Episcopal Church on 25 South Third Street in Wilmington at 11am on Tuesday February 26. The family will receive friends following the service in the Lee Parish Hall. A private interment for the family will occur in the St. Francis Garden at St. James Parish.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Episcopal High School in Alexandria Virginia and St. James Church. .
