Anne Diffenderfer Spangler, age 102, beloved wife of the late Henry A. Spangler, died peacefully on April 12, 2013. She is survived by her children, Ellen Spangler Wilson (Larry), Robert W. Spangler (Carol), and Charles H. Spangler, her grandchildren Thomas A. Wilson (Susan), James A. Wilson (Deion), Robert L. Wilson (Donna), Anne Wilson Parzick (Robert), Kristen L. Spangler (Mark Ellerbrook), and David R. Spangler (Kelly Wallis).
She is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.
Born and raised in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area, Anne graduated from Allegheny College, worked in the Pittsburgh public school system for a few years, then married Henry. After his years of military service during World War II the family moved to Mckeesport, PA, where Anne enjoyed family, friends, church activities, cooking, and baking. Henry and Anne then spent their retirement years in Wrightsville Beach, NC, where they made new friends and enjoyed the beach. After Henry's death, she moved to Vashon Island, WA, to be near her son Bob and his family.
Many thanks to the Vashon, WA, Community Care Center for their good care and compassion in Anne's later years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to McKeesport Presbyterian Church, Union and Versailles, McKeesport, PA 15132 or Little Chapel on the Boardwalk Presbyterian Church, 2 West Fayetteville St., Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480.
Services held at the Union Dale Cemetery chapel, 2200 Brighton Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15202 on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Catherine Purves officiating.
