GURKIN, JR.

Leland -- Earl Brown Gurkin, Jr., 61 of Leland, N.C. died Friday, May 3, 2013 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center, Whiteville, N.C. He is the son of Earl Brown Gurkin, Sr. and Alice Carolyn Edwards Gurkin.

Mr. Gurkin was a member of the Riegelwood Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon-Trustee and served on the Budget and Finance Committee, and Baptist Men. He was owner-operator of Gurkin Construction. Mr. Gurkin was a former Mayor of Sandy Creek, N.C. and was currently a Council Member serving as Mayor Pro-Tem of Sandy Creek, N.C., a member of the Southeastern North Carolina Mustang Club and Founding member and Vice President of the Cape Fear Farm Heritage Association.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie Stone Gurkin of Leland, N.C.; Sons: Earl Shane Gurkin and wife, Shonna of Tabor City, N.C. and Michael Ryan Gurkin and wife, Sara of Leland, N.C.; Daughter: Pamela Gurkin Cumber and husband, Jason of Leland, N.C.; Parents: Earl and Alice Carolyn Gurkin of Clarkton, N.C.; Brother: Robert Gurkin and wife, Lisa of Clarkton, N.C.; Sisters: Carol Spradley and husband, Mike of Wilmington, N.C. and Jean Creech and husband, Mike of Clarkton, N.C.; Grandchildren: Grayson Gurkin, Garrett Gurkin, Cameron Gurkin, Kirick Gurkin, Lira Gurkin, Vanna Gurkin, Logan Cumber, Madix Cumber.

Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at the Riegelwood Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Charles Hester and Rev. John Porter officiating. Burial will be in the Riegelwood Baptist Church Cemetery. The Jeremiah Sunday school class will serve as active and honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be Monday night, May 6, 2013 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the Riegelwood Baptist Church.

Memorials may be made to the Riegelwood Baptist Church Mobilizing to Build Fund., 103 Hwy 87, Riegelwood, N.C. 28456.
