RICHARD FREDERICK HEWLETT, JR. Wilmington native, Richard Frederick Hewlett, Jr., born September 10, 1929, and known to all as Dick, passed away May 13, 2013, at his home with his loving wife of 63 years, Judith Henderson Hewlett, by his side. Dick grew up in the Dry Pond area with his parents Richard and Rebecca Keathley Hewlett. Greenfield Lake was his "backyard" where he spent endless hours canoeing and perfecting his tennis skills, eventually becoming a local and state level tennis champion. His career began at Atlantic Coastline Railroad, which later became CSX, working as machinist and draftsman before retiring in 1987 as Supervisor of Communications and Signals. He was a Master Mason of the local 319 Lodge and 32nd Degree Mason in the Scottish Rite. He recently received his Diamond Jubliee Certificate and was awarded a life time membership for his 60 years of service. At family gatherings, he was known for his closing prayer: "In the name of our Lord, we love you, we believe in you, and we know you are the only God and there is no other. In Jesus Christ's name, we pray. Amen." He will be missed. Dick is survived by his wife, Judith, and his son Richard Frederick Hewlett III, daughter-in-law Cynthia Lambert Hewlett, grandsons David, Peter, Corey, and Nathan Hewlett, son Michael Wayne Hewlett, daughter Kim Hewlett Roberts, son-in-law Robert A. Roberts, grandchildren Madison and Daniel Roberts, sister Bonnie Hewlett Sibbett, brother Barrie Hewlett, sister-in-law Deborah Streetman Hewlett, and beloved cat Tex. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Dexter Hewlett. Visitation will be held from 3-4pm, Wednesday, May 15, with funeral service at 4pm at Pine Valley Methodist Church.
