ALBERT "A.B." BERRY HAWES Albert "A.B." Berry Hawes, 91, of Burgaw, died Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Huntington Health Care. He was born March 17, 1922, in Rose Hill, NC, to the late Berry Hawes and Maggie Bryan Hawes. A.B. proudly served in the US Marine Corps and retired after 21 years of service. He was a member of Scotts Hill Baptist Church, Retired Enlisted Association and the Fleet Reserve Association. A.B. was a life member of the American Legion, Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, First Marine Division Association and the Elks Lodge BPOE 532. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Glen Thomas Hawes and siblings, Lorena Hawes Allgood, Daniel Graham Hawes, Horace Livingston Hawes, Leary Bryan Hawes and Marguerite Hawes Burns. Survivors include his wife, of 43 years, Mary Margaret Ward Hawes; children, Albert Bryan Hawes and Ronald Berry Hawes; step-children, Paula Mercer (Freddie), Cheryl Oliver (Rev. Michael ), Harvey M. Godwin, Jr. (Crystal) and Robbie Godwin (Phyllis);grandchild, Jodi Hawes Daughtry; several step-grandchildren and brother, Thomas Jackson Hawes. A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Sunday, July 7, 2013, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Elks Lodge BPOE 532, 5102 Oleander Dr., Wilmington, NC 28403 or Scotts Hill Baptist Church, 11243 Hwy 17, Wilmington, NC 28411.
