MICHAEL RICHARD HENDRIX Michael Richard (Mike) Hendrix, 71, of Kure Beach, NC passed away November 15th, 2013. He was born April 30th, 1942 in Forsyth County, the son of Wilburn P (Wink) Hendrix and Frances Merritt Hendrix who predeceased him. Mike graduated from North Forsyth High School and attended Elon College. He lived in Greensboro before moving to Kure Beach, NC in 1980, where he was a successful Realtor and General Contractor for many years. Mike was an independent free spirit. He enjoyed a full and active life. He vigorously pursued many passions over the years - bridge (master points), tennis, golf, photography, horticulture, sailing, automobile racing and, most of all, fishing. Mike was a world-class fisherman and guide, feared by both salt and fresh water species. He enjoyed spending time and fly-fishing at his Helton Creek mountain cabin. He tolerated no left-lane dawdlers on the highway or in life. A love of nature provided his spiritual sustenance. He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Peggy Funderburk Hendrix, the love of his life. Also by four children: Rick Hendrix and wife Arleen of Winston-Salem, NC; Jeff Hendrix and wife Michele of High-Point, NC; Beverly Brooks of Marietta, GA; Rod Brooks and wife Terry of Raleigh, NC; and three grandchildren, Hailey Hendrix, Tyler Hendrix and Vivian Brooks. They were dearly loved and brought him much joy. Mike was a beloved husband, father and "Pa-Pa". He is missed tremendously by all who knew and loved him. A celebration of life service will be arranged at a later date.
