WILLIAM A. DAVIS, JR 74, of Southport, NC died Friday, March 28, 2014 in the Dosher Memorial Hospital. Born in Westmoreland County, VA on September 18, 1939, he was the son of the late William A. Davis, Sr. and Sue Palmer Long. Mr. Davis was a US Navy veteran, and was an avid outdoorsman. He had a special interest for spending time with his children, while fishing and boating. He also was a league bowler for many years. One of his accomplishments was that he won the Grady White King Mackerel Tournament. Survivors include, his step-father, Dale Long; step-mother Anne Davis, both of Boiling Spring Lakes, NC; two sons, Alan Davis and wife Kathy of Southport, William A. Davis, III of Boiling Spring Lakes; a daughter, Kristen Davis and fiancé Jeremy Wood of Wilmington, NC; a step-brother, Jimmy Long of Fredericksburg, VA; seven grandchildren, Rachel Edwards and husband Tony, Alan Davis, Francis Cooke, Canyon Cooke, Ridge Cooke, Gavin Davis and Peyton Wood and a great-grandson, Blake Edwards. Graveside services will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, April 1, 2014 in Brunswick Memorial Gardens, Shallotte. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to the Bethel Baptist Church, 1628 N. Howe Street, Southport, NC 28461.
