CWO4 MARION PARKER, USCG/RET. CW04 Marion "Charlie" Parker, USCG/Ret., 77, of Wilmington, NC, died Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center following a long, hard battle with Parkinson's disease. Charlie was born on April 14, 1936 in Rose Hill, NC, the son of the late Herbert and Gertie Brown Parker. Also remembered are a brother, Milton Parker and a sister, Hazel Fox, both of whom preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife Lois Basnight Parker; three children, Robin Miner, Pamela Basnight Barnes and fiance Greg Coleman of Wilmington; Bert Basnight and wife Kathy of Wilmington. Seven grandchildren, SFC Tray Basnight, US Army, and wife Mandy, Ivey Barnes, Marlo Barnes, Seth Miner and Keely Miner, Derick Hitchcock and wife, Jaclyn Taaffe, and Karl Larson. Five great-grandchildren, Melanie, Darren, Trayson, Coby, and Raelynn. A sister, Ethel Taylor, resides in Matthews, NC. Charlie was a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved to work with his hands and could build or repair anything. Always the mentor and friend, he would lend a hand to anyone in need. He was an avid gardener and golfer. Charlie had a prestigious 30 year career in the U.S. Coast Guard where he retired in 1985. He was a life member of the Military Officers Association, a member of the Navy League, Elks, and American Legion. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at Pine Valley Baptist Church, Shipyard Blvd. with Rev. Roy Parker and Rev. Melvin Hall officiating. The family will receive friends at 2:00 PM in the church parlor prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Life Care Center, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or National Parkinson's Foundation, Gift Processing Center, P.O.
