ELIZABETH CANADY EDENS Elizabeth Canady Edens, 91, of Wilmington, NC, died peacefully Friday, May 9, 2014 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on May 5, 1923, in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Julius Gordon Canady and Virginia Mae Rogers Canady. Also remembered is her husband, Johnie A. Edens, who preceded her in death in 2007. Mrs. Edens was a strong willed and loving woman who cared deeply for her family and friends. She especially enjoyed family gatherings and never let a family birthday go past without a card from her. A talented dancer known for her "beautiful blue eyes", Mrs. Edens won numerous beauty contests and dance contests at Lumina and once was the winner of a "Miss Scarlett O'Hara" contest. Always up to date on current affairs, Mrs. Edens was well read and also enjoying gardening, fishing and swimming. She loved birds and especially loved her cat, "PK". Surviving are her three children, Larry G. Edens and wife Sara, Linda E. Andrews and husband Tom Moore, and Rick Edens and wife Lyn; five grandchildren, Christy Edens, Larry Gordon Edens, II, Shannon Edens, Lauren Rodgers and Jonathan Edens; and six great-grandchildren, Camryn, Tripp, Avery, Jackson, Bradley and Emma. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, May 12, 2014 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel with Chaplain Sweetie Francis officiating. Interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.
