VIRGINIA JONES BALDWIN Virginia Jones Baldwin, 94, of Wilmington, NC, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014, with her family by her side. She was born in Duplin County, NC, on June 14, 1919, daughter of the late Julus Jones and Florence Mobley Jones. Her husband, John William Baldwin, died in 1993. "Mema" is survived by her children, John Baldwin and wife Jane of Wilmington and Barbara Lopez and husband John of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kim Baldwin of Wilmington, Anne Oesterbo (Don) of Wilmington, and Katherine Lopez of Charlotte; a sister, Nevada Jones of Burgaw; special neighbors, Melissa and Patrick Borowiak and their son Reese; and a very special friend, Nell Wells. Preceding her in death were siblings, Myrtle Langston and Harold Jones. She and her husband, John, were born in the "Big Band" era and loved to dance and listen to music of those times. She was employed for over 30 years as a dental assistant to Dr. Archie Harris in Wilmington. During World War II, Mrs. Baldwin served her country working in Civil Service at Fort Bragg and Camp Davis in readying and preparing the troops for overseas assignments. For over sixty years she was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ladies Circle of the church and a Sunday school teacher for forty years. In her spare time she enjoyed working in her flowers and garden and feeding and watching the birds. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Donnie Lovette officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the service hour. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
