REV. JASON D. ROSS Reverend Jason D. Ross, 91, of Shallotte, died Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at his home. He was born on October 5, 1922 in Concord, NC; a son of the late Rev. M.L. and Zelma Connell Ross. After graduating from high school, he joined the Army Air Corps and over three years, serving the country he loved, in the S. West Pacific. Following being discharged, he enrolled in Wake Forest University. Upon graduating, he faced the future not having decided what his life's work would be. For years he had resisted God's call to be a preacher because he did not want to be a preacher. But God prevailed and Rev. Ross surrendered his life to God to be a preacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served churches as pastor for 50 years and acted as evangelist to India, Mexico, Cuba, and many churches in the United States. Many souls have been saved under his ministry. Surviving are his wife, Doris Elizabeth Gore Ross, of 40 years; son, George Hardie, of Charlotte; four daughters, Gloria Rivenbark, of Currie, Gail Penny (Thomas), of Burgaw, Kristal Hardie, of Shallotte, and Cheryl Holt (Thomas), of Ivanhoe; sister, Mildred Goffingan, of VA; two brothers, David Ross, of Silva, and Rev. Paul Ross, of Bristol; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. Rev. Ross loved his family, but God and His Word was his first love. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 17th in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel by the Rev. Anthony Clemmons. Burial will follow in the Jennies Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday evening at the funeral home. Casketbearers will be his grandsons. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH, 45250-0301, in Rev. Ross' memory. He will surely be missed by many people, who loved him, his message, and the beautiful songs he sung. Private online condolences may be sent to the family at www.brunswickfuneralservice.com.
