BENNY LEONARD MURPH, SR. Benny Leonard Murph, 79, lost his battle with cancer, Saturday, May 17, 2014. Mr. Murph was born July, 17, 1934, in Kannapolis, NC, to Eugene and Irene Murph. He is survived by his loving wife, of 27 years, Betty Paynter Murph,(they had also renewed their vows in January of 2007), a sister; Jeri Martin of Landis, NC, sons; Benny L. Murph, Jr. of VA, Daniel Proudfoot, (Annie), of Durham, NC, daughters; Patricia Morton, (Tim), of FL, Patti Cooke of Shelby, NC, grandchildren; Jennifer Ritter, Christopher and Aaron Morton, Liam Proudfoot, and great grandchild; Kyleigh Maybe. Mr. Murph was a proud 4 year Army veteran of the Korean War. He served a number of years in the HVAV industry as an installer and repair tech. He was also an avid golfer. He was an Elks member, and also a member of VFW Post 10. He was an active co-pilot in the Pilot Club. Benny was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and served with the WARM Project, a Stephen Minister, and also helped with the senior ministry. The family will receive friends 1:00-2:00pm, Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with a memorial service to follow at 2:00pm, also at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice. Coble Ward-Smith, Oleander Chapel is honored to serve the Murph family.
