She was a tireless volunteer at New Hanover Regional Medical Center and welcoming "Ambassador" at Wilmington International Airport, Wilmington, NC. In January 2002 she received the President's Volunteer Service Award from President George Bush's Council on Service and Civic Participation in recognition of her many thousands of hours of dedicated volunteerism.
