ANNIE BRYANT LONG Annie Bryant Long, 99, of Wilmington, NC died in Christian faith and hope on May 20, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was born January 27, 1915 in Lanvale, Brunswick County, North Carolina. She was the daughter of David Paul Bryant and Cannie Yarbrough Bryant. She had one sister (Margaret Bryant Jones) and four brothers (David Paul Bryant, Jr., Herman Graham Bryant, Edward Lawrence Bryant, and George Washington Bryant.) She was married for thirty eight years to James Covington Long, Jr. (Jimmy). Her husband, her parents, her siblings, two nephews (Gary Preston and Eugene Thomas (Gene) Bryant), and four nieces (Gloria Seawell, Helen Preston Lane, Rose Marie Jones, and Elizabeth (Libby) Bryant Swanson) all predeceased her. Annie considered Helen Lane, who had lived in Annie's home as a child, to be her daughter. Annie is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Her nieces include Peggy Jones Davis of Statesboro, GA, Barbara Bryant Buck of Greensboro, NC, Patricia Newton of Columbus, GA, Catherine (Cathy) Clayton of Austin, TX, and many others. Her nephews include Herman G. Bryant, Jr. of Wilmington, NC and his sons West Bryant and Edward Bryant, Charles A. Jones, III and David M. Jones both of Wilmington, C. Thomas (Tommy) Preston of Wilmington, Rick Buck of Greensboro, Edward L. Bryant, Jr. of Odenton, MD and many others. Annie was a loving member of our family and inspired us with her tender care for her mother for many years. Annie appreciated the kindness of her friends Mary Helen Smith and Marie Preston as well as that of the friends from Grace Baptist Church who visited her in her last year. Annie was a graduate of New Hanover High School. She was a longtime employee of Finkelstein & Son on Front Street in Wilmington. She was a longtime, faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Wilmington. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.at Grace Baptist Church on Friday, June 13, 2014. A private memorial service will be held in the chapel at Greenlawn Memorial Park at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church in Wilmington or to any local or national charity that benefits pet dogs and cats. The family thanks Dr. Linda P. Calhoun, Dr. Mary K. Rudyk, Dr. Stanley Cutler, Dr. Neil MacIntyre, and Dr. John Sanders for their medical care for Annie and the kind staff at Wilmington Health & Rehabilitation Center, Inc. for their daily care for Annie in her last year.
