CAROL JEAN FLADD Carol Jean Fladd, 69, died Friday, June 13, 2014 at NHRMC following open heart surgery. Born June 28, 1944, she was the first of three daughters born to Laurence and Mary Lee Fladd. Predeceased by her parents, she is survived by sisters; Janice Fladd, Wilmington, and Maxine LeFever and her husband George, of Danville, VA. Also surviving are nephew; Brian LeFever, Roanoke, VA, niece; Traci LeFever, Rocky Mount, VA, grandniece; Nicole Moore, also of Rocky Mount, aunt Grace Kahle, VT, aunt; Winifred Hamilton, and a number of cousins. She will be very much missed by her dog, Casey. Carol graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College with a degree in Education. She began her teaching career in Mooresville, NC. She moved to Wilmington where she taught until retiring in 1996. She was active in the Girl Scouts of America, member of the Sierra Club and enjoyed hiking the Appalachian Trail. Carol was an excellent swimmer and worked to teach others to swim at the YMCA and Girl Scout camps. A very creative person, she also enjoyed making greeting cards, sewing, knitting, working in her flower garden, and she was an avid reader. Carol was a kind and gracious person whose greatest loves were God, family, and Grace United Methodist Church. She was a long time member at Grace and very active in the UMW, taught Sunday school, decorated for meals and celebrations, worked on the alter guild and worship committee and was church historian. In keeping with Carol's wishes, please celebrate her life by wearing colorful attire and comfortable shoes to her service. Her celebration will be Tuesday, June 17, at 11:00am, at Grace United Methodist Church, 401 Grace St., Wilmington, NC.
