IVA "DENIE" PEPPER SMITH Iva "Denie" Pepper Smith, 88, of Wilmington, NC, (Masonboro Sound Community), died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington. She was born in Wilmington on December 17, 1925, daughter of the late William F. Pepper and Mary Catherine Farrow Pepper; and was preceded in death by her husband of 19 years, J. Walter Cook, and husband of 31 years, Charles " Smitty" Smith. Denie was a member of Masonboro Baptist Church in Wilmington. In the early 60's she and her husband, Walter owned and operated Cook Seafood Restaurant in Denton, NC. She loved to play (and win) Bingo, and she and her husband, Smitty enjoyed taking their boat out in the waters of Masonboro to go clamming. Surviving are her son, James H. (Jim) Cook, Sr. and Patty of Lexington, NC; grandson, James H. (Jamie) Cook, Jr. of Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter, Jerri Baio and husband Mike of Lexington, NC; great-granddaughters, Melisa and Erin Cook-Hollar; great-grandsons, Dillon, Alex and A.J. Baio; brothers, Thomas Pepper and wife Joan and Jimmy Pepper and wife Jeane; nephews, Lewis "Peanut" Farrow, Jr. and wife Joan; Don Todd and wife Jane; Roger Pepper and wife Debbie, Michael Pepper; Randy Pepper; Brian Pepper, and Tommy Todd and wife Sharon; and nieces, Nancy Payne and husband Elbert, Cathy Hickman and husband Colon; and Donna Rowland and husband Ray. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington, NC. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Masonboro Baptist Church Cemetery, 1501 Beasley Road, Wilmington, with Dr. Gordon Wright, Jr. officiating.
