ROBERT RIDGELY (BOB) DOBO SR.

Robert Ridgely (Bob) Dobo Sr., of Wilmington, NC, born April 28, 1929, died peacefully,July 14, 2009. He is survived by his son, Robert Ridgely Dobo Jr. of Greensboro, NC; his brother, Gabriel William (Bill) Dobo and wife Barbara of Wilmington, NC; his sister, Claire D. Ruch of Wilmington, NC and Summerland Key, FL and several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Commander Gabriel and Margaret Dobo and his wife Dorothy Gray Dobo. Bob also leaves behind many close friends.

Bob's life was marked and guided by his love of science and nature. While serving with the United States Coast Guard, he began developing his electrical engineering skills. After attending Wilmington College, he worked with RCA Government services in Greenland and at Marshall Spaceflight Center in Huntsville, AL. He later joined his brother Bill in forming Cape Fear Utilities, a major supplier of water and sewer services in New Hanover County. In recent years, the two brothers developed Fac-ette Manufacturing for the production of gem faceting equipment that is sold worldwide.

As a major benefactor of the University of North Carolina, The North Carolina Aquariums, the North Carolina Zoo, and other educational and humanitarian causes, Bob's generosity will long be remembered. His legacy will continue to touch the lives of those who seek knowledge about the natural world.

Bob was a member of the Wilmington Masonic Lodge #319 and the Local Sudan Shriners Organization.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, July 17th. at the Oleander Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to the UNCW Advancement Office, 601 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC 28403-5990 for the Dobo Endowment for Music Education.
