ALEX RACHUNOK

Alex Rachunok, 64, of Wilmington, died Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Alex was born November 13, 1946, in Detroit, MI, son of the late Alex Rachunok and Catherine Oncza Rachunok.

Mr. Rachunok was an active member of St. Mark Catholic Church and School. He was a loving husband, fabulous father, brother and friend. Alex attended Michigan State University. He was a P.G.A. Professional in good standing. He moved to the Wilmington area from his P.G.A. position in Arizona to accept the Head Professional position at Topsail Greens Country Club in Hampstead. During tenure from his golf career, he worked as a salesman in many of the local Wilmington car dealerships. He later resumed his golf career at the St. James Plantation Country Club. Even when he was sick, he took the time to instruct many young men in the fine art of swinging a golf club. In addition, for many years, he had coached numerous Cape Fear Soccer Assoc. teams, inspiring young people to reach their goals.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sue Rachunok; two children, Ben and Charlie Rachunok; three sisters, Donna Rachunok and Cathy Hirschauer, both of Green Valley, AZ, and Peggy Hanlin (Gary) of Dearborn, MI; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 6pm to 8pm Thursday, March 31, 2011, at Andrews Market Street Chapel.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be 11am Friday, April 1, 2011, at St. Mark Catholic Church with Rev. Steven Carlson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made at any Wilmington area Sun Trust Bank branch toward a scholarship fund for his children, Ben and Charlie Rachunok.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.andrewsmortuary.com
