Mrs. Charlotte Sprunt Murchison died Thursday, February 9, 2012, at her Wrightsville Beach home. She was born on November 28, 1924, in Houston, Texas to the late Lula Frère and Alexander Sprunt. She was also predeceased by her husband, David Reid Murchison, Jr. and her son, David Reid Murchison, III.

She is survived by her daughters, Mary Frère Gornto and her husband, George Deanes Gornto, and Charlotte Sprunt Murchison; and her son, Alexander Sprunt Murchison, and his wife, Anne Harrison Murchison; her grandchildren, Catherine Gornto Freeman and her husband, Peter Lawrence Freeman, George Deanes Gornto, Jr. and his wife, Christine Yelverton Gornto, Edward Sprunt Murchison and his wife, Elizabeth Kelly Murchison, Anne Murchison Williams and her husband, William Leaford Williams, IV; and great-grandchildren, Charlotte Sprunt Freeman, Lawrence Waite Freeman, David Murchison Freeman, Lilly Callaway Gornto, and George Deanes Gornto, III.

Mrs. Murchison graduated from St. Catherine's School, Richmond, Virginia, and Sweet Briar College, Sweet Briar, Virginia.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 13, 2012, from St. James Episcopal Church with The Reverend Ronald G. Abrams officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Murchison from 4:00- 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 12, 2012.

The family wishes to thank the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Mrs. Murchison's wonderful caregivers, Diane Canty, Shaquala Bell, Delores Logan and Wanda Lewis.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. James Episcopal Church Foundation or to the David R. Murchison Family Scholarship at UNCW, and The Ministering Circle.
