Mary Elizabeth Winborne Kapraun of Santa Ana, Costa Rica, passed away peacefully after an extended illness on March 15, 2012. She was born in Wilmington, NC, on July 22, 1944, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Winborne, Jr. of Wilmington. She is survived by her daughter Frances Winborne and her two children, Juliana and Ramon, of Jaco Beach, Costa Rica, and her son Mark Robert Winborne and his wife of Raleigh. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Frances Winborne Schaaf and Edward Matthew Schaaf III, of Richmond, VA, and her brother and sister-in-law, Stanley Winborne III and Alice of Guanajuato, Mexico; also her nephews Edward Matthew Schaaf IV and wife Katy and Alexander Robertson Schaaf and wife Anne Taylor of Richmond, Stanley Winborne IV and wife Marci of Rougemonte, lan Christopher Winborne of Islamabad, Pakistan, and niece Virginia Winborne Pylypiw and her husband Nick of Raleigh, as well as eight great nieces and nephews and a number of other relatives and friends.
Beth attended Greensboro College and was presented at The Terpsichorean Ball in Raleigh. She was a very accomplished equestrienne who spent most of her colorful life riding, showing, and training horses. She was also a beautiful artist who loved nature and relished bringing her subjects to life on canvas. She will be greatly missed. Memorials may be made to the SPCA.
