JOSEPH "JOE" W. BLAND

Mr. Joseph "Joe" W. Bland Jr., age 92, of Rose Hill, NC, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 at Wallace Presbyterian Church conducted by Dr. Philip Gladden. Burial will follow at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery, Wallace, NC. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 pm Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Padgett Funeral Home, Wallace, NC.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Myree (Herring) Bland, three sons, William Bland and wife Caryl of Wilmington, NC, Joe Bland III and wife Debbie of Wilmington, NC and Bob Bland of Little Switzerland, NC, a daughter, Sarah Bland of Sneads Ferry, NC, two step-daughters, Janis Zibelin and husband Warren of Nebo, NC and Cheryl Howard and husband Elwood of Shallotte, NC, a step-son, Mike Harrell of Raleigh, NC, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, thirteen step-grandchildren, eight step-great grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Jane Bland of Saint Augustine, FL, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Born April 24, 1920 in Asheville, NC, Mr. Bland was the son of the late Joseph Wharton and Norma Carr Bland and was preceded in death by his first wife, Jean Simmons Bland, a brother, Jack Bland, two sisters, Dorothy Stern and Jane Watson. Joe was a lifetime member of the Wallace Presbyterian Church serving in the past as an Elder (Deacon) and singing in the choir. He graduated from Wallace High School in 1937. Following high school, he served in the United States Navy during World War II as an Aviation Mechanic. After an Honorable Discharge, Joe worked for the Wallace Post Office for 32 years and retired as a Postmaster. Joe was a member of the Masonic Lodge 595 and a member of the VFW. He loved fishing, but especially loved spending time with his family and friends.

Casketbearers will be Will Bland, Robert Allen Stumley, Kelly Bland, Jay Howard, Ken Howard and Eddie Bowman.
