John Carlson Obituary

Carlson, John F. Born on July 5, 1914 the son of Albert (Anna) Carlson in Karlskrona, Sweden. He attended grade school in Sweden before he and his family emigrated from Sweden to Minnesota through Ellis Island on September 1, 1922. John graduated high school and began an apprenticeship in printing with a large printing firm. During his apprenticeship at the Bureau of Engraving he met his future wife Ethel Anderson. Together they were married on November 4, 1939. To this marriage two children were born Rick and Linda. After John's apprenticeship he worked for a few small newspapers before working at the Minneapolis Tribune just prior to his marriage to Ethel. He retired from the Minneapolis Star Tribune after 34 years, ending his career as a press supervisor. John's wife Ethel died on September 28, 1996 from cancer at her home with her family at her bedside. A few years later John met and married Nadine Johnson on October 10, 1998 at Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria. John loved flower gardening. He grew beautiful tulips in the flowerbeds at the Senator in Alexandria. He enjoyed traveling and playing golf. John was a member of Shalom Lutheran Church, Golden K's, Sons of Norway and the Masonic Temple. He loved living by the lake, being on the water, and watching sunsets. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be lovingly remember and dearly missed by his family and many friends. John Folke Carlson died on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 at the age of 93 years old. He is survived by his wife, Nadine Johnson of Alexandria; son, Rick Carlson of Seattle, WA; daughter, Linda (Richard "John") Kellerman of Alexandria; grandchildren, Cain (Cheri) Kellerman of Iron River, MI; Josh Carlson of Seattle, WA; Rebekah (Keith) Watts of San Francisco, CA; Blue Carlson of Aspen, CO; Joey Carlson of Aspen, CO; great- grandchildren, Malachi Kellerman; Ari Kellerman, and Elijah Kellerman, all of Iron River, MI; Aisha Watts, and Lily Watts, both of San Francisco, CA; sister, Dorothy Anderson of Minnetonka, MN; nieces, nephews, and cousins; Nadine's children, Janice Gudmundson, Jerry Johnson, and Sharon Kummrow. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ethel Carlson and brother, Ewald Carlson. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 26, 2007 at the Shalom Lutheran Church in Alexandria at 11 AM. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Sunday and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in the Carlos Prairie Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Anderson Funeral Home in Alexandria. www.andersonfuneral.net
