Dear family,

Charlie and Gerry were dear friends of my parents
Stan and Connie Siegel. In the early days they took so many trips together. My mother Connie was in the car accident with Gerry when she died. After that, Diane came one summer to stay with us in Aberdeen, South Dakota. I remember her as strong and gracious and very kind. Charlie was such a character and my dad loved to tell stories about him. They shared so many experience and laughs. They had so much fun together. After my Dad got ill, Charlie was always in touch with him and did many kind things for him. He was a very loyal friend. I feel very sad about Charlie's passing. It feels like the end of an era.
(Diane, I would very much appreciate it if you would get in touch with me.)
with love and respect for your wonderful father and grandfather,

Charlie was president of the Minnesota Golf Association (MGA) from 1980 to 1982. He was a get-things-done type of guy. His contributions to the MGA were many and added to the record growth of the association during the 1980s. He was also a director of the Western Golf Association and worked hard to raise funds for the Evans Scholars Caddie Scholarship program. He taught me to be a leader by his actions and his devote Christian life which was dedicated to helping others. You didn't have breakfast, lunch or dinner with Charlie without saying a blessing before the meal. I'm proud to call him friend and will greatly miss his energy and wisdom.

Dear Family,

I was terribly saddened to learn of Charley's passing. We were good friends for many years, even before the Westchester Circle years. What wonderful years those were.

Charley is the only person I know who got disgusted with a swimming pool -- filled it with dirt and sodded it over. We shared many good laughs as neighbors.

Charley often observed that it took two cars on Sunday morning to transport the entire Hvass family to Father Hayes' service at Good Shepherd.

Charley was responsible for our membership at Golden Valley Golf Club and the International Society of Barristers.

We will always remember Charley as a good friend, great lawyer and fine neighbor. I and my family wish you all well and with good memories.

Dear Hvass Family,
When I was in law school 28 years ago, Charley was a volunteer Moot Court Judge. Following the oral argument, he sat me down and talked with me for about a half hour about trial law and told me he thought I had the potential and passion to be a great trial lawyer. I almost couldn't believe a lawyer of his stature would take the time to meet with me. He really inspired me to go into injury trial law and I continue to do so today.

Perhaps you all remember me from the band, Bitter Lemon. We were pretty famous... In 7th Grade. I wrote a song called, "Mr. Hvass", because I really wanted to kiss Jeannie. Jeff didn't care. And Gary just wanted to talk about stuff.

I was a little afraid of Mr. Hvass because he was such a commanding presence. But he was generous, and direct, and he was one of the best Dads on the block. I think of all you guys more than you know. And now my thoughts are with all of you again. My sincere condolences, and I hope you are all well.

My sympathies to the family, a great loss. He was instrumental in getting me started as a forensic traffic engineer. I loved meetings in his office, where we frequently worked on golf swings. I will always remember being admonished before a trial "and for Pete's sake, remember your hearing aids !"
