Arthur Swanstrom Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 25 to Sep. 26, 2010.
Swanstrom, Arthur W. DDS Age 87, of Edina, died 9/23/10, after a long battle with cancer. He and his sister Barbara grew up in Mpls and attended West High School. He married Barbara Clements in September of 1945. Art attended the University of MN and received his Dental Degree in 1945. After serving as Dental Prosthetics Officer in the Navy, he joined his father in his Mpls practice in 1946. He practiced dentistry for 52 years, retiring in 1997, leaving his practice in the hands of his son, Dr. Arthur C. With the exception of his Navy assignment, he lived in Mpls and Edina his entire life. He had many patients, friends, hunting and fishing buddies. He was a great story teller and his office staff and patients were often treated to tales of his most recent trip to some remote spot on the globe. His adventures were many, exciting, humorous and entertained us all over the years. While fishing and hunting were his most famous avocations, he was a man of many skills and interests. Art was interested in business. He was a 50+ year member with Templar Masonic Lodge, Mpls Scottish Rite, York Rite, Zuhrah Shrine Temple and member of Zuhrah Legion of Honor, the Big Game Club, and Safari Club. Survived by wife of 65 years, Barbara; sons, Dr. Arthur (Annie) DDS, David, and Richard; grandson, Arthur W. (Sarah); great- grandchildren, Scout and Hawken; sister, Barbara Gonnella; and his loyal hunting dog Dipper. Interment Acacia Park Cemetery. Memorials preferred in lieu of flowers to the Salvation Army. Funeral service Monday, 11 AM, with visitation 1 hour prior and visitation also Sunday (TODAY) 3-5 PM all at: Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel 952-920-3996 West 50th St. & Hwy 100

Doc - I always admired your ability to live life on your terms. It is an inspiration to know a man who can achieve not only an accomplished career as a skilled professional (DDS), but also accrue the life experiences of a professional big game hunter and outdoorsman. Your congenial hospitality and warm personality earn you a place in my favored memories. You'll be sorely missed, Al
