Fred Ryman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 24 to Jun. 26, 2011.
Ryman, Fred E. "Fritz" age 97, of Bloomington, died peacefully on June 22, 2011 at Friendship Village after a long, rich and full life. Fritz was born Feb. 9, 1914 in Mpls. Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Virginia Ryman; parents, Fred & Kathryn Ryman; brother, Marsh Ryman; sister, Jeanne Crone and great-grandson, Ben Hamlin. Survived by his daughters, Jane E. Danielson and Mary (Chuck) Killian of St. Paul; grandsons, Judd (Sherry) Danielson of Luck, WI, Jay (Janelle) Danielson of Mound, MN, Tony (Julie) Killian and Josh (Susan) Killian of Mendota Heights, MN and 11 great- grandchildren. Fritz grew up in Minneapolis, graduating from Central High School and attending the University of MN. He enjoyed all sports and was an accomplished tennis and hockey player, bowler, horseshoe player and golfer. He was a longtime member at Interlachen Country Club, where he was a single-digit handicapper and competed in the Mpls Senior League, as well as for the Mpls Athletic Club, where he was a long- standing, active member. He golfed until he was 84, when he shot his age, and had 4 holes-in-one in his lifetime. He was a member of Twin Cities Dunkers for nearly 50 years and attended meetings regularly, even as late as Feb. of this year. Of all the sports, he probably enjoyed baseball the most and had a great affection for the Minnesota Twins. He loved all the University of Minnesota teams and had great admiration for them and the University because of his affiliation there, and his brother Marsh's long history with the University of MN, including being Athletic Director from 1963 to 1972. He had a long and successful career in the shelter building materials business, where he was highly respected, genuinely liked, and made many long lasting relationships. He started with the B.F. Nelson Roofing Co. in NE Mpls and became a salesman in 1935 and worked in Nebraska, St. Paul and Mpls. He went on to become Vice President of Sales and a board member of the B.F. Nelson Co. before they were acquired by the Certainteed Corp. He then became Vice President and Regional Sales Manager for Certainteed and continued to work for them even after moving to Arizona in 1976. He finally retired in 1982 after nearly 50 years in the business. He returned to Minnesota after the death of his wife Virginia in 1999 and enjoyed living at Friendship Village. He will be missed dearly by family, friends and colleagues. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 AM Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Pax Christi Catholic Community, 12100 Pioneer Trail, Eden Prairie. Fellowship and time to greet the family will take place starting at 10 AM at the church before the Mass and continues at the luncheon to follow. Memorials preferred to the University of MN Williams Scholarship Fund, The Fairview Hospice Program, or the Friendship Village Employee Fund. Washburn-McReavy Dawn Valley Chapel 952-941-7686

Dear Mary, Chuck, and Jane,
How lucky we were to have your Mom and Dad next door to us as a newly married couple! They were mentors, friends, and I know great parents! We have been blessed to have known Fritz and Ginnie! The Pumpkin Bread will live on in their name! We will be celebrating their lives at Mass with you, on Thursday, only a few hundred miles away in Colorado! God Bless! Tom and Judy

Dear Jane & Family,
Our prayers are with all of you at this time. The Lord, now holds your father in His arms now and the Angels will forever watch over him. I think back to last late last summer and having lunch with your Dad, when Marty was here. I am so happy we all shared that time with your Dad and Marty was able to visit with him too.
