Marian Dommel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 1, 2013.
Dommel, Marian Frances 98, of New Hope, formerly of Hopkins/Crystal, died peacefully August 29, 2013 at the Ambassador Care Center. Marian was born in Rippey, Iowa to George and Lois (Field) Podmore on December 4, 1914. On September 18, 1935, she married Homer Dommel in Dana, Iowa. They were blessed with three children. The only time one would find Marian idle was when she was waiting for her beloved Vikings, Twins or Tiger Woods to play on TV. Marian could be found ushering at church, taking long walks, chatting with neighbors, playing cards with friends, antique shopping for music boxes and cuckoo clocks, and working on jigsaw puzzles. Most notable was the generosity and love she poured into the several hundred quilts she made and donated the last 8 years to the Ronald McDonald House for sick children, as was featured last December on KMSP-TV. Survivors include her three children, Susan (Bill Taney) of Harvard, Illinois, Richard (Nancy) of Lugoff, South Carolina, and James (Darlene) of Eden Prairie. She was the proud grandmother of 5 grandchildren, Zoe Dommel, Diann Honadel, Jill Avery, Christy Keating and David Dommel. She also cherished her 10 great-grandchildren. Marian was preceded in death by her loving husband, Homer (1982), and two sisters, Isabel Smith and Irene Eilbert. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Marian's life will be held Tuesday, Sept. 3, 1 PM at The Heathers Manor, 3000 N. Douglas Dr., Crystal, MN. Special thanks goes to the caring staffs at The Heathers Manor and The Ambassador Care Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Lost Dogs Illinois, PO Box 545, Harvard, IL 60033 or Ronald McDonald House Charities, Inc., 26345 Network Place, Chicago, IL 60673-1263 are preferred. www.Washburn-McReavy.com Strobeck Johnson Chapel 952.938.9020

I did not have the pleasure of meeting Marian but have known Jim and Darlene for many years. They are wonderful friends to have. Both of them were very dedicated to ensuring Marian was well cared for in her final years. Condolences to the entire Dommel family.

I had the pleasure of greeting and thanking Marian and her family each year when they came to the Ronald McDonald House to deliver the quilts. We always admired her vigor and accomplishments as we looked at each one and noted both her handiwork and the fabric she chose for each in order to put a smile on the face of a child at the Ronald McDonald House. The love and joy Marian and her children expressed each year as they brought the quilts to the House was memorable. We will truly miss Marian and are thankful to have known her the past few years.

Susan, Dick and Jim,

Marion has touched our hearts at the Heathers Manor. She was our cheerleader of our Campus. She was always looking out for
others, befriending new residents and showing them around. She dressed in her Sunday best every day and always had a kind word for everyone. She never complained and was a very humble woman. Marian was loved by all , she truly will be missed! Thank you to the Dommel family , we were honored that Marian shared her life with us.

Marian was a special friend to me. I worked at the Heathers, and she and I spent a lot of time together. When she moved to Ambassador, I would often go visit her and she was always in good spirits. She will be truly missed by everyone whose life she touched. She was a wonderful woman. I am a better person for having known her.
