Yes Honey, Like Jeff says, the 4th just wasn't the same without you!
My thoughts were with you, as every year, buying fireworks was first on your list :-) The parade up here reminded me of you and the kids, and now Kim is living up here and ran into all the detours to block the streets for the parade on her way to work :-)
Kim found your birthday card you gave her a couple years ago that played " Like a Brick House" It just started playing all by itself. Of course she started crying. We know it was you communicating with her :-)
It is getting harder and harder to realize you are not here. We miss you soooo much!!!!!
Love you with all our hearts!!!!

I still have a hard time believing that you're gone.
There is something every day that I see or hear that reminds me of you, and I have to sit back and collect my thoughts before I move on. I try to keep it positive, just like we always talked about. I miss you!
Love ya man!!

Hi Honey,
Well this is the first time I am writing in your book, even tho I talk to you everyday. There are so many beautiful tributes to you written here. You are so loved and cared about, and missed so much!
Yesterday was a bittersweet day. It was Jessica's graduation party and it was raining just like at Brandon's. Jessica had so many people attend it. Grandmas, Grandpas,Uncles and Aunts,Cousins, Friends,Teachers,Mom, Brothers, BUT NOT HER DADDY. WE MISSED YOU!!!
We are so proud of her, she had so many certificates laid out on the table of all her achievements, all her beautful graduation pictures. She is so excited to start her new adventure at NWC. She will be going to camp again soon. I know how proud you are of "your little princess".
Mary's family has purchased a beautiful tree to be planted in your honor in her and the kids yard. Such a wonderful tribute for your children to watch grow and always think of their DAD.
It was a lovely party!!! We also got to see Brandon's house. He was kind enough to take Grandma, Sandy, Dad, Kim, Jeff and I over to see it. As you know already, he has a very nice house and has done such a nice job fixing it up with the help of so msny wonderful people!
It is still so hard to realize you are not with us anymore, except in our hearts. I miss my Saturday morning calls, to hear your voice, "Hi Ma". But you accomplished so much with making so many people happy, and for raising 3 wonderful children to be so proud of!!!! So BE PROUD "BRIGGS BORAN", you did a great job in your short life, even tho we know you wanted to do so much more.
Thank you honey for being our son!!!
We love you and miss you with all our hearts!!!

Dear Mark..So loving, so kind, so giving, so young, so soon, so sudden. I will miss your phone calls and our discussions. I'll miss your cards--you could always find just the right one to say how you felt. I'll miss your smile and laugh. I'll miss seeing you. The good Lord decided you had done all he wanted you to do--so you got to go home to Him. I'll keep praying for Brandon and Jessica and Noah to follow all you taught them--and He will be watching over them. And on this day I know you are having the best Birthday of all with your heavenly Father. Love you, miss you, and will see you someday. Happy Birthday "Gully, Gully, Gully" --- Auntie Sandy

Today Mark would have celebrated his 51st birthday. Because he placed his faith in Jesus on February 13th, 1985, Mark had another birthday that he called his "born again" day. Although I miss Mark greatly, I look forward to seeing him in heaven with his health restored.

Dear Bro,
This is a day to celebrate your life and not mourn your passing. You have touched a lot of people in a positive way over your years and you should be proud of that.
Although I hurt deeply inside because you are not here to walk through life and experiences things here on earth with, it does comfort me to know you are in a better place.
It is your Birthday, so I am wishing you a happy one.
I love you always and forever,

Brandon, Jessica and Noah,
My prayers are with your family. I knew your father to be a remarkably generous man. He shared joy, encouragement, prayers, and corny jokes with many people on campus. When I was diagnosed with cancer, your father prayed for me and went out of his way to encourage me. Mark's beautiful smile, uninhibited laugh, and bright shining eyes are already missed at Northwestern.
I'm praying for you to experience God's peace and comfort.

Dear Mary, Brandon, Jessica, and Noah; Mark and I came to pray often for you all as he walked through a very confusing and humbling time over the years I knew him. Brandon, Jessica, & Noah,
My heartfelt condolensces to you on the passing of your father. Mark was a wonderful man and such an encouragement. We would often visit in the print shop or hallway, and within seconds would find ourselves immersed in some substantive, weighty conversation about the things of life. More often than not, Mark would share about you his children and the immense pleasure you brought to his life. I would like you to know that your dad had quite an impact on me and I am grateful for his friendship. He is dearly missed and my heart and prayers are with you at this time.

Dear Family,
I have been reading "The Greatest Life of All" by Charles R. Swindoll and came across this portion of text I thought "you all" might find helpful ... I know that I do at this time of lose...
This discussion come from an article from Christianity Today from a former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow after he learned that his cancer had returned...Tony reflected on his bout with colon cancer by this reminder...
"His (God) gift to remind everyone around him that even though God doesn't promise us tomorrow, he does promise us eternity... filled with life and love we cannot comprehend... and that one can in the throes of sickness point the rest of us toward timeless truths that we help us weather future storms."

Brandon, Jessica, & Noah,
My deepest heartfelt sympathies are with you at the death of your dad. We are really going to miss him at Northwestern College... his infectious smile and laughter, and joy for life.
During my first weeks as a new employee at NWC, your dad was among the first people to introduce himself and welcome me to the team. We had a long-standing "drop in policy" for visiting each other. Any time he was on the 4th floor of Nazareth Hall he would "drop in" for prayer and some good story telling. And any time I was near the print shop, I would drop in. We kind of had an unspoken contest to see who could tell the corniest joke. (He usually won!)
My mom died just a couple of days before your dad, so I know a little of what you all are going through. Please know that you all are in my thoughts and prayers.
Grace and Peace,
~David Fenrick

Dear Family,
I still do not know "how" to process the loss of such a good friend and Christian brother. There is a strange feeling that occurs each and everytime I pass the print shop. My personal life has been enriched these many years by his friendship.
Mark has encouraged me more times then I can mention...He loved life and loved being playful with his friends... I remember on one occasion when he brought a box of copies to my office that he (Mark) label "Dr. Strange Love" My TA were wondering who that was...

Mr. Manning was a kind man that made sure his kids came first. All three children are FANTASTIC and I am sure that he will leave a legacy with each one. Stories are many but one that comes to mind is when he would visit me during student conferences. Even if I didn't have any of his children that particular year he STILL managed to come visit just to see how I was doing. Awesome man of God and his smile and heart will be missed.

Dear Family:
It is with a heavy heart that we write here over these days. Mark was such a breath of fresh air to me. His walk with Christ was so real and visible to all. Our team works a great deal with the print shop and I never left there without being encouraged and lifted up by his wonderful spirit. I led a prayer gathering last spring for staff and Mark never missed and always came up afterwards and shared God's continued movement/s upon his heart. Brandon, Jessica and Noah - I know you know this, but boy was your dad proud of his kids. He shared with me often about each of you and how he loved you so much. Your sharing at the memorial was amazing. Jessica - your song was one of the most powerful things I have ever seen. Also so you know, your dad's eyes always lit up whenever he talked to me about your coming to NWC next year. He was so proud. Please know that our office wants to serve you and the rest of your family in any way needed in the years ahead. Please know we are and will continue to pray for you all. God bless. Jim Johnson.

Dear Brandon, Jessica, and Noah and Family
When I first came back to NWC as a Prof your Dad befriended me. We then developed a great friendship that included sharing great stories about our children and in my case my grandchildren. We would trade Noah stories. I have a nephew named Noah. He was always encouraging to me with a ready smile and a funny comment. I looked forward to the opportunities to pray for each other. Please be assured that I am going to miss Mark a lot. I will be praying for you in the weeks and months to come. My trips to the print shop are not the same.

Dear Manning Family,
Mark Manning was an encouragement to me every time I met him in the print shop at Northwestern. He always had an encouraging word, and he was always willing to help. I will miss him, and I still look for him and listen for his greeting when I go to the print shop. Brandon, Jessica, and Noah, it was good to meet you at the visitation Sunday night; I can see why your Dad was so proud of you.

Jessica, Brandon, and Noah,
I am remembering your dad and thankful I was blessed he called me friend and sister in the Lord. I am also very thankful I had the opportunity to talk and pray with him while he was in the hospital. As usual he talked about his faith in the Lord. After our prayer I very vividly remember his words to me, "I appreciate you sister". Well I appreciated his love for the Lord, his compassion for others, his transparency and how much he deeply loved you all! Mark made an impact in the lives of others. He genuinely cared for the hearts of people. He wanted to be loved and respected and that prayer was answered. I am thankful that he is in the arms of Jesus rejoicing with the angels and I'm sure, blessing them with his many stories. So glad we will see him again.
May the Holy Spirit comfort you all as you go through this difficult time and always.
In JESUS' name,

Mark made working more fun for me with his humor throughout the day. I enjoyed working with Mark. Mark was a self sacrificing person. He would go without things he needed so that he could provide things for his kids that they wanted. He looked forward to the times he could be with his kids and wanted to be a part of their lives. He was not perfect and didn't claim to be. One thing I herd him say often is "I'm no better than anyone else". Mark loved the Lord and was not bashful about sharing his faith with others so they could know Jesus also, especially his kids and those close to him.

Dear Brandon, Jessica, Noah and other family members: Your dad/son/brother/uncle was a special man. Every time I had an opportunity to interact with Mark, he was full of joy. It was clear that his great desire was to love God and bless others, and he did that very well. Though Heaven's gain is great, I am praying that in your loss while you are separated from him, you will find peace and comfort in the Lord and in sweet memories.

Dear Brandon, Jessica and Noah, tears flow as I write these words about how kind, joyful, caring and loving you dad was. He spoke often to me about his great love for you three. I was so shocked to hear of Mark's passing. Running into him in the halls or in the print shop was always a day-brightener. I will truly miss his kind and heart-felt smile, his contagious laughter, and the stories of his children that he proudly recounted every time we got the chance to chat.
I'm sure you know, Brandon, Jessica and Noah, how much your dad loved you and how proud of you he was... It was certainly evident to all of those with whom he came into contact.
My prayers are with you during this painful time.

Brandon, Jessica, and Noah ~
I was shocked and saddened to learn of your dad's passing. His sense of humor and kind, caring spirit made him such a valued friend to many in his Northwestern College family. Your dad made an impact on people. He made people laugh, and he served them with gladness. He obviously loved the three of you so deeply, and took every opportunity to talk about you. Please know that I will be praying for you in the months to come as you grieve.

Dear friends,
I just want to send my sympathy to all of you. I knew Mark only through the Print Shop at NWC. Whenever I would bring my laminating over from the Child Development Center, he would always visit with me about the theme and what I had for him. He was a gentle, kind man who loved His Lord. Even though we are all sad at his passing, we can take comfort in knowing that He is with His loving Savior. May the memories that you have help you through these hard days and in the comfort in knowing we will see Mark once again.
Sincerely, Sandy Lark (NWC CDC preschool teacher)

My heart goes out to Mark's family during this time of deep sadness. Mark was a great man who always made others smile and feel important. Everty time I went to the print shop at Northwestern College I knew I would leave smiling because Mark would say an encouraging word, a joke or just a blessing. I was also amazed at the love he had for his children. Noah, I learned about your love for foreign currency and when he asked me if I had any Kenyan shillings for you, I did not hesitate. You all are truly blessed to have had him as a father.

Dear Manning Family,
Mark left a lasting impression on many of us here at Northwestern. In my mind's eye I still see him parking his car and walking across the parking lot, or walking down the hall with his apron on. Dear Mary, Brandon, Jessica, and Noah,
My deepest sympathies to you all on Mark's passing. In the time that I had babysat for you and attended Hope Lutheran, I came to know Mark as a kind and caring father with a great love for his children. He had an infectious smile and was a genuine soul.
Sometimes we can't understand God's reasoning for the way life plays out...we just need to trust in him and know there's a bigger plan than what we see.
My prayer for you all is to find comfort and peace in this difficult time.

Dear Manning family,
I have prayed for you daily since I heard last Monday that Mark had gone to be with His Lord. I had the great privilege to get to know Mark over the past five or six years. We talked often, had a cup of coffee together frequently, went to lunch together a few times, but met in the halls or print shop almost daily. Mark's beaming smile, a positive attitude blessed everyone he had contact with. He always brought a word of encouragement to anyone he met. He will be greatly missed. Northwestern College has lost a wonderful light. I look forward to seeing him again as we walk the streets of gold.

I happened to see the obit in the paper while I was down from Moorhead visiting my mother for Mother's Day and was quite shocked.
I hadn't seen Mark since high school, of course, when we worked together at Kentucky Fried Chicken. But I remember him as one of the nicest guys I knew then, the kind of kid who wasn't a big school celebrity but was just a really good guy. And that pic of him is perfect; he had a great smile.
My condolences to his family.

For over 35 years, Mark was my trusted friend. During the past 25 years, he was my brother in Christ. I will greatly miss his smile and upbeat attitude. Mark's optimism and humor made him a delight to be around. Although I now mourn the loss, I look forward to being reunited with this dear brother in heaven.

Things I will miss about Mark: his smile, his contagious laugh, his thoughtfulness, his kindness, his love for his family, his love for Jesus, and his humility. He will be missed greatly by many. Brandon, Jessica and Noah -- our thoughts and prayers are with you during these difficult times. Always remember your dad was so very proud of each one of you and his greatest wish for you is that you live your life for the Lord. He had the assurance of salvation and he waits for you in heaven.

To the family of Mark. I am very sad to hear of the passing of Mark. I grew up with Mark and I will never forget all the hours we hung out together in my garage in the Heights putzing with cars and bikes. I could almost count on seeing Mark a couple of times a year at car or bike shows. I would always look forward to our class reunions when we would hook up and have loads of laughs. I will truly miss Mark. Rest in peace brother.
