Sheran, Former Chief Justice Robert J. age 96, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Justice Sheran graduated from St. Thomas College (national debate champion) and the University of Minnesota School of Law. He served as a Special Agent in the FBI during World War II. He practiced law as a trial lawyer with Gallagher, Farrish, Sheran, and Zimmerman in Mankato, and later at Lindquist and Vennum, PLLP in Minneapolis. He served in the MN House of Representatives from 1947 to 1949. He served on the MN Supreme Court twice, first as an Associate Justice appointed by Governor Elmer Anderson, (1963 - 1970), and then as Chief Justice appointed by Governor Wendell Anderson (1973-1981). He retired from Lindquist and Vennum after serving as an Interim Dean at the Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Brown Sheran, and son, Michael and his wife Rizalina. He is survived by 4 children and their spouses, Thomas (Linda), Kathleen (Dean Doyscher), John (Christina), and Daniel (Nancy); 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 3-6 PM Sunday, January 29th at Washburn-McReavy, 5000 West 50th St., Edina. The church visitation will be Monday, January 30th at 10 AM followed by an 11 AM funeral service at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Edina. There will be a burial service on Monday at 3:30 PM at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.
