Annette and family
I was in John's Bible Study Series at Elim on Wednesday nights and enjoyed them and him so much--my sympathy to you all.

Annette, The service is over and many friends surround you. I was there for the whole period of time that you were in church in spirit and prayer. The days may be a little long for awhile, but that is not what John would want, so journey on as we will be there in prayer for you. Lots of love for his brothers and especially for you.

Annette, so very sad to hear of John's passing. He was a champion for the underdog without a doubt, an 'Augie' like myself and Uncle to a very terrific student of mine...Riley. God surround you Annette and your family. Many prayers for you, Jaette Carpenter

This man made a difference! As a classmate (Augsburg and Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary), a colleague in ministry and a life long friend, John's place in my life will be missed. In the parish or at the House of Representatives or among LSS colleagues, I admired John's commitment to getting something done, something passed, something good for those who Called or elected him to benefit our life's journey. I laugh inside when I recall John's impersonation of W. C. Fields (Ah yes, my little chickedees!)...So to Annette, Amanda and Jennifer along with Susan and all his family, may John's memory encourage us all to live life with purpose and with a joy of meeting and greeting others - traits of John Clawson that endeared him to all of us.

I was shocked to see John's obituary in the online version of the Star Tribune. I am living in Slovakia temporarily, so I will not be able to attend the funeral or offer my condolences in person. John was an amazing man at LSS of Minnesota. He covered so many bases and always knew the key issues. I am sorry for your loss, Annette. Bill Fredell
